Naiveté and Style from the Turn of the Century (19th) Inspires
Modern Handmade, Organic Wearables & Usefuls Collection
Los Angeles, CA (July 30, 2009) – Actors Potsch Boyd and Khali MacIntyre refused to let the recession’s affects on Hollywood and its lagging production schedule stall their creativity. As if the newly engaged couple didn’t have enough to keep them busy with planning their 2010 wedding, they channeled their unbounded energy, imagination and originality into an artisan fashion business that they named Honey B.
Honey B’s two debut collections consist of Wearables by Honey B for men and women made in lightweight super soft organic cotton and other hand-made items called Usefuls by Honey B.
The Los Angeles based actors / designers / entrepreneurs / seamstresses / printers / schleppers found inspiration for their hand-pulled silk-screened prints in advertising and social life images of the 19th century. “Sensing a correlation between those times of great change, opportunity and hope, and today, the images and words that we print on our collection strike a balance between the elegance and innocence of yesteryear and the casualness and confidence of our modern world,” said MacIntyre.
Honey B for the lady is comfortable and confident with burn-out style tank tops and light weight extra-long sleeve scoop necks that are adorned with glamorous, confident women of the past. The color palette, also inspired by vintage images is earthy with sepia toned versions of plum, dirt, dust, coal and blue ridge.
Gentlemen can sport Honey B style in shirts made of soft organic cotton. Long and short sleeve options flaunt “tools of the trade”. For the Miner - the Pick and Shovel, the Writer – the quill and ink, the Barber – the shears and comb and for the Outlaw - the revolvers.
When MacIntyre’s mom, Cathy Shambley, Executive Chef for Fête du Thé by Algabar, got wind of the Honey B Useful concept, she pleaded with the duo to create a stylish and functional Market Tote for her weekly trips to LA’s Farmer’s Markets. “Every time I’m at the farmers market, which is a lot, I take my Honey B tote. I get stopped by so many other shoppers I am beginning to think I should forget about buying tomatoes and herbs and sell Honey B totes. I am thrilled to be able to tell them where they can finally get their own. ”
The hand-dyed and hand-sewn Market Totes by Honey B were designed specifically for convenience at the Farmer’s Market, complete with inside pocket for money, phone and keys, but this tote also performs perfectly on a jaunt to the beach or a Hollywood Bowl excursion.
Another Useful by Honey B is The Fix Caffeine Coat. Hand-sewn and hand-screened using vintage and repurposed fabric, The Fix wraps around your takeout caffeine “fix” while helping to “fix” the planet by not wasting those cardboard sleeves. When you are done with your beverage you can “fix” your outfit by wearing The Fix as a cuff.
MacIntyre and Boyd’s loving “Honey B” pet name for each other inspired the moniker of their company as well as their philanthropic focus. A portion of Honey B’s profits will go to research, education and outreach efforts to save the honeybee population.
